I have the honour to refer to the Agreement between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Republic of Austria concerning the abolition of visas, constituted by Notes exchanged at Vienna on the 3rd of April, 1968,(') as amended by the Notes exchanged at Vienna on the 9th of June, 1969,(2) and to inform Your Excellency that as collective passports are not specified in paragraphs (1) and (2) as travel documents to which the terms of the Agreement apply, the Government of the United Kingdom consider it would be appropriate if the provisions of the Agreement were to be extended in order to dispense with the need for visas to be obtained by persons travelling on such passports.

I now have the honour to propose, on instructions from Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, that the Agreement be amended as follows:

Sub-paragraph (1)(a): Delete the full-stop at the end of sub- paragraph (iv) and insert "or".

or". Insert new sub-paragraph as follows: (v) a valid British Collective Passport issued in accordance with the legislation of the United Kingdom together with an official document showing the identity of its bearer ".

Sub-paragraph (2) (a): Delete the full-stop at the end of sub- paragraph (iii) and insert "or". Insert new sub-paragraph as follows: (iv) a valid Austrian Collective Passport issued in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Austria together with an official document showing the identity of its bearer ".

Sub-paragraph (1)(c): For "the document specified in sub- paragraph (a) (iii) above" substitute "one of the documents specified in sub-paragraphs (a) (iii) or (v) above ".

Sub-paragraph (2)(c): For "the document specified in sub- paragraph (2) (a) (iii) above" substitute "one of the documents specified in sub-paragraphs (2)(a)(iii) or (iv) above".
