HONG KONG BN(0) PASSPORT HOLDERS:
MAURITIAN VISA REQUIREMENTS
1. Mrs Tara Seelabuck telephoned from the Prime Minister's Office yesterday afternoon to let me know that the decision has been taken that Hong Kong BN(0) passport holders will be free of Mauritian visa requirements until 31 December 1996. The Mauritian Government will be asking their Honorary Consul in Hong Kong to relay this decision to the authorities there. She was letting us know informally as ત courtesy since we had been kind enough to advise on the issue last week.

Without my letter to Mrs Seebaluck of 17 February in front of me I had lost sight of the fact that the Mauritian Government's deadline of 31 December 1996 leaves a gap of six months before Hong Kong BDTCs lose their status
on 1 July
1997. No doubt the Hong Kong authorities will spark on this.
