THE ABOLITION OF VISAS

I have the honour to inform you that, with a view to facilitating travel between their respective territories, the Government of the Republic of Korea is prepared to conclude with the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland an Agreement in the following terms:

(a) Korean nationals holding valid Republic of Korea passports shall be free to travel from any place whatever to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man without the neccessity of obtaining a visa and to leave these territories without being required to obtain an exit permit. (b) British subjects holding valid passports bearing on the cover the inscription British Passport at the top and, at the bottom, the inscription “United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or "Jersey" or "Guernsey and its Dependencies” or “Isle of Man and, inside, the description of the holder's national status "British subject" or "British subject, citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies", or "British subject, citizen of the United Kingdom, Islands and Colonies", shall be free to travel from any place whatever to the Republic of Korea without the necessity of obtaining a visa and to leave Korea without being required to obtain an exit permit. Such a visit shall be limited to sixty days, but may be prolonged for thirty days without charge by the Korean authorities. in accordance with the appropriate regulations. Persons who wish to stay in the Republic of Korea for a period exceeding ninety days shall be required to obtain in advance a visa, which shall be issued without charge, from the competent Korean diplomatic or consular authorities.

(c) The waiver of the visa requirement shall not exempt Korean nationals coming to the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, or British subjects proceeding to the Republic of Korea, from
