The French offer to provide 1,000-1,500 essential staff working in international companies in Hong Kong with "assurances" still stands. Those chosen will be issued with an introductory document giving them the possibility to apply for permission to stay in France. Although this "titre de sejour" does not give permanent residence in France and must be renewed at intervals (no foreigner can claim permanent residence), in practice it has much the same effect.
