Dear Flastair,

Royal Naval Hong Kong Chinese Personnel

I got a letter the other day from Eddie Shackleton enclosing a letter dated 10th December from the Captain in Charge Hong Kong on the above subject. As perhaps you may be aware, I have been extremely interested in the Nationality question of Hong Kong citizens really since the 1981 British Nationality Bill (as it then was).

Sadly, Eddie Shackleton is in increasingly frail health and has asked me whether I would be willing to take this matter up and I have responded positively. Please therefore find enclosed copy of Captain T L Sunter's letter of 10th December 1992. I know this is not the first time that this subject has been brought up but that does not in any way diminish the importance of it and I should be very grateful if I could have a chat with you in the fairly near future to hear your views and hopefully suggested course of action.
