Dear Simor

BRITISH CITIZENSHIP FOR WIVES AND WIDOWS OF EX-SERVICEMEN

Thank you for your letter of 31 August.

I took these points up with the Home Office. I still await a formal response, but I thought that you would wish to know that the Home Office Legal Advisers are apparently maintaining that they have been misrepresented by Mr Wingfield and are not holding out any hope of a change of heart by Ministers. I will be in touch again when I receive a more formal communication.

Edward Llewellyn tipped us off that Mr Edwards plans to travel to Tokyo to represent to the Prime Minister (who will be there this weekend) the interests of the dependents of former prisoners of war and other servicemen. We are brefing the Prime Minister's party on the background and Home Office line.

Yours ever,

Mathie
