and children under 18. The aim of the Act was to encourage key people to remain in the territory, by offering them the chance of obtaining British Citizenship without having to leave Hong Kong. In this way we hoped to maintain confidence in Hong Kong. The scheme has worked well, and has encouraged these key people to stay and make their life in Hong Kong.
