The discretions that can be exercised are
only
within the parameters of the specific sections of the Act
on naturalisation and registration. The provisions tor
registration as a British citizen under Section 4 (5) and
for naturalisation under Section 6(2) are at enclosure (2)
(1) for your reference
Section 4(5) requires the
*
individual's own Crown service and Section 6(2) requires
the husband to be in Crown Service and to have been
recruited for such service in the UK. The wives and
widows are not eligible as a group under those
provisions, We intend to look at each individual case in
detail again, though, since they have been considered
past,
several times in the , it must be unlikely that any
will qualify.
NOLE (1) :
There used to be a third possibility under
Section 8 In those cases where an
•
ex-serviceman had become a British citizen
(BC) before 1983, the wite or widow could
apply for registration as a BC by virtue of
marriage in the five years after
commencement of the British Nationalicy Act
1981 i.
e
from 1983-1988.
M
However, since
the five years stipulated in that Section
has now passed,
this provision cannot be
made use of now.
