Problem

1. Mr Goodlad wrote in July to Mr Wardle putting the case for special arrangements for members of the non-Chinese ethnic minorities in Hong Kong, and for the wives and widows of ex-servicemen. He also passed on some questions put to

him by the Foreign Affairs Committee (FAC). Mr Wardle has replied along uncompromising lines. What follow up action is

needed?

In response to representations from Hong Kong and a request from the Foreign Affairs Committee, Mr Goodlad wrote on 21 July

to Mr Wardle to draw to his attention continuing (Mr Goodlad

first wrote in April) public support for the case put by the ethnic minorities and war widows for British citizenship.
