In my fax of 30 August I promised to try to get some more information from the Home Ministry.
2. We understand from our Home Ministry contacts that people of Indian origin living abroad can obtain from Indian Missions five year (multiple) entry visas without difficulty. This same facility is available to spouses and children of people of Indian origin. Five year visas can be extended for a further five years after expiry.

The significance of this is that any person of Indian origin who is ordinarily resident of India or has been so resident for five years can apply for Indian citizenship. addition to the Indian Citizenship Act of 1955, of which I have already sent you a copy, I have been given details of the Indian Citizenship Rules 1956 which give details of the method of application.
