COMMONWEALTH PARLIAMENTARY ASSOCIATION ANNUAL CONFERENCE, LIMASSOL, 3-11 SEPTEMBER

CALL FOR BRIEFS.

1.

Lady Chalker will lead the UK delegation to this years CPA Annual Conference which takes place in Limassol from 3-11 September. She will attend the conference from 4-8

September.

2. The primary purpose of this minute is to commission classified briefs for Lady Chalker and unclassified briefs for the delegates based on the attached list. Where briefs for both are required, Depts should consider whether the background section of the same brief can be used for Lady Chalker and the delegates.

BRIEFS

3. Briefs for Lady Chalker should be in normal FCO Ministerial format and include, in tiret form, an appropriate line to take and any additional background information. Briefs for the delegates should be factual (i.e.

with no

line to take but with facts and figures as appropriate).

DEADLINE

Briefs in final form, and with a uniplex disc, should be sent to CCD by Noon Thursday 2- September in order to go in Lady Chalker's box on 3 September. (Lady Chalker departs for Cyprus on 4 September).

BACKGROUND

The CPA Annual Conferences are gatherings at which Commonwealth Parliamentarians from most Commonwealth countries exchange views on political, economic and other subjects of mutual interest. No resolutions are passed and no communique is issued. They provide an opportunity for our MP's to explain a British (not necessarily HMG's) point of
