1. We would still be interested to know what Hong Kong residents of Indian descent would need to do in order to obtain Indian citizenship.

There has been considerable parliamentary attention paid recently to the arrangements in force post-1997 for members of the ethnic minorities in Hong Kong this has been prompted partly by the visit last month by a delegation from the House Committee of the Hong Kong Legislative Council. (Mrs Barnes Jones' Letter of 10 June to Parker refers). A visit by the FAC to Hong Kong in October is also serving to focus attention on this area. We would find it helpful to have any details you may be able to obtain on the Indian angle.
