Thank you for raising this matter yesterday in the Legislative Council.
Just to ensure that there is no confusion, I thought I should make it clear that we are still awaiting a formal reply from the British Government to the representations we made following the debate on this issue on 10 March in the Legislative Council.
The impression I gained during my recent visit to London is that the mood has not changed since you discussed this matter with Mr. Wardle in January. Hence my rather negative assessment during our exchanges in the Council. I thought it would be wrong to raise any false hopes.
But, as I said, we will continue to reflect the views and concerns of LegCo Members to London. You and your colleagues will have a further chance to do this directly on your forthcoming visit in June.
If we hear anything further from London in the meantime, we shall of course let LegCo Members know immediately.
