1. Thank you for your letter of 29 December. I hope that you have by now received the record which you asked for in your earlier letter to me of 17 December. (We sent to Hong Kong by bag on 6 January).

2. I note the references in your letter of 17 December and in Hong Kong telno 2973 of 31 December to the LegCo sub-committee set up to consider the issue of ethnic minorities. We would welcome any further account which you can now give of the meeting which took place at the end of December. This could be relevant to the briefing which the Home Office is now preparing for Ministerial meetings later this month with LegCo members including Jimmy McGregor and Emily Lau.
