MR WARDLE'S MEETINGS WITH HONG KONG LEGISLATIVE COUNCILLORS
Your notes of 25 November and 11 January to Mr Walmsley requested
briefing for two meetings which Mr Wardle will be having on 20
and 27 January with two groups of legislative councillors from
Hong Kong. Both groups wish to discuss "British citizenship for
Hong Kong British subjects, particularly ethnic minorities whose
descendants will become stateless after 1997". Mr Walmsley and
I shall be attending the first meeting and Mr Rawsthorne and I
the second meeting.

on ethnic minorities (copy attached at Annex A) which took place
in the Hong Kong Legislative Council (LegCo) on 18 November and
by the formation shortly before that of a sub-committee of the
House Committee under the chairmanship of Emily Lau to examine
this issue in detail. Briefing on the subject may be found at
