This circular which should be preserved permanently in your archives constitutes a formal delegation to you and sub- sequent holders of your office of the functions specified above out this úves uui thereby prejudice the sight of the Secretary of State to exercise any of those functions himself.
4. In exercising these functions, you and your successors should be guided by the instructions contained in the Diplomatic Service Procedures Volume 46 entitled 'Nationality Instructions to Governors',

Since the British Nationality Act 1981 repeals the British Nationality Acts 1948 1965 (with the exception of a few minor Sections of the 1948 Act), as from 1 January 1983 you shall not be able to exercise any of the functions dele- gated to you under those Acts except those necessary tor implementing Schedule 8 of the 1981 Act (transitional provisions).
