OVERSEAS BN(0) APPLICATIONS

Please see the attached copy of a fax dated 15 September from Ingrid Ho in Hong Kong about the confusion of some of our posts in the US over the retention of valid BDTC passports by applicants for BN (0) passports.

I should be grateful if NTCD could look into this and take the necessary action with our US posts in order to clear up the confusion.

3. I notice from our files that the instructions sent out to posts on this matter (our telno 154 to Abidjan) vary from what we originally told Hong Kong in our telno 602 of 22 June. As you will see paragraph 2(i) of our instructions says "....who has a BDTC passport which remains valid may retain it .....", whereas the same paragraph in our telno 602 to Hong Kong states "....who has a BDTC passport which is valid until 30 une 1997.....will keep his BDTC passport when issued with his BN (0) passport." This difference was probably introduced by the Home Office (see Lord Ferrers written reply to a PQ by Lord Wilson of Tillyhorn on Tuesday 29 June). may wish to look into this before approaching our posts.
