Mr Christie on endorsement in BC passport. Refers to the agreement of those who took part in negotiations with the Chinese that the holding or inclusion in "such a British passport" was crucial to acquisition of the status.

Mr Christie's minute of 18 May to Mr Morris folio 96 Raises the question of approaching the Chinese to explain that it was never our intention to make acquisition of BN(0) status dependent on the holding of an equivalent passoort but that in practice the two would go together.

Mr Morris' NTCD minute of 20 May to Mr Christie folio 118 Left it to Home Office and HKD to comment on his last minute (neither we nor they did). Enclosed a draft to send to Hong Kong to say that we would go for endorsement of BC passports to show they had BN(0) status.
