INTRODUCTION

At the meeting of 4 May, Members asked for an

information note on the BOC status after discussion of a

recent media exchange on the subject. At the meeting on

18 May, Members asked for an information note on the

difference between the BN(0) passport and the BOC

passport. This note responds to both requests which

overlap.

BACKGROUND

BOC status came into existence with the

commencement of the British Nationality Act 1981 in 1983,
