National (Overseas) in accordance with paragraph (2) above, provided that he applies within three months of the date of his registration as a British Dependent
Territories citizen.
4 (6) In this article "the relevant period" in relation to a person whose year of birth falls within one of the entries in column 1 of the Second Schedule to this Order, means the period beginning with the date shown in the corresponding entry in column 2 and ending with the date shown in the corresponding entry in
column 3 of that Schedule.".

Section 42 of the British Nationality Act 1981 shall
be amended so as to add, after subsection (5),
" (6)
Any person who applies for registration or naturalisation as a British Dependent Territories citizen under any provision in this Act by virtue (wholly or partly) of his having a connection with Hong Kong, shall be naturalised or registered, as the case may be, provided that he satisfies the relevant requirements and that he makes his application on or before 31st May 1996.
(7) The Secretary of State may register, until and including 30th June 1997, any person who makes an application as mentioned in subsection (6) above after 31st May 1996 if that person can show there are exceptional reasons why he did not apply before the date mentioned."
4. After the Schedule to the Hong Kong (British Nationality) Order 1986 there shall be added the Schedule set
out in the Schedule to this order.
