Points for outstanding achievements etc.
6. The scheme is also thought to give insufficient points for
exceptional merit ΟΙ outstanding achievement awards, whether
occupation-related, or for voluntary work or acts of bravery.
Hong Kong would like to see the 20-30 points available for such
achievements increased to 50 points. They would similarly
prefer, in the light of experience in the first tranche, to see
more importance attached to public or community service.
Extremely few applicants have managed to score any meaningful
number of points under this heading. They wish to make explicit
provision for service as a non-official Justice of the Peace to
count as public or community service and for such service to
score points at the same rate as that recommended for service as
a member of an approved public body (ie. three points for each
year of service). Because of the wording of the Order such
service cannot be taken into account at present unless the JP
belongs to an organisation.
