LETTER FROM THE REFUGEE REVIEW TRIBUNAL

1. I enclose a letter dated 18 August from Annette Evans of the Refugee Review Tribunal which has been forwarded to us by Canberra. As you can see Ms Evans is asking for information about Chinese citizens who pass through Hong Kong on their way to Australia.

2. From what we have been able to find out the Refugee Review Tribunal is a judicial body set up in June 1993 by the Australian Government to advise their Minister of Immigration on matters relating to refugees etc. It is therefore a bona fide organisation. I should be grateful therefore if you could let me have an answer to this letter which Canberra can pass on the Refugee Review Tribunal. Although we would like to be as helpful as we can we do not think that there is any need to pass on information which you consider to be privileged.

yours Johnn

ever,

John Woodrow
