Thank you for your fax of 15 July giving me information about Nepalese workers wishing to be admitted into Hong Kong for employment.

2. We are proposing to write to the Nepalese Minister for Industry and Labour on the lines of your letter. However the figures you gave for the number of applications approved over the last two years appear rather low on their own and I should like to put them into context. Could you therefore please let me know, if possible, what they represent in percentage terms of the total number of applications received from the Nepalese for employment. In view of your strict criteria I imagine that it must be very small. How does this compare with other third world countries ? I should be grateful if you could let me have an answer to these questions fairly soon.
