Secretary of State's Easter Travel
I minuted on 15 January about the Secretary of State's Easter travel.
There are two extra points:
Mrs Hurd, as I think you know, has been asked by Mrs Sohmen to launch a ship. Originally this was to have been in Shanghai last autumn. Now the ceremony is to be in Korea in the spring. The latest message from Mrs Sohmen suggests Good Friday, 9 April.
The Secretary of State is attracted by the idea of making Korea the last stop of his week in the Far East. Please work this into the outline plan.
As my earlier minute said, the Secretary of State will only decide about visiting China in mid or late February. If he decides to go he may go independently of the Easter visit to the Far East. I suppose it is always possible, however, that the Secretary of State decides to go to China but does not find time to go there separately. Thus you should perhaps have in the back of your mind the possibility that two or three days in the middle of the week will need to be devoted to Peking/Hong Kong. If there is no need to tell the
