Dear Anne, Арие,
CZECH FOREIGN MINISTER'S VISIT TO HONG KONG
1. We spoke about a telephone conversation you had with a representative of the Czech Embassy in Brussels. You have agreed with him that the channel communication on this visit should be via the Czech Embassy in London. (According to the Czech Embassy here, the Hong Kong Development Council in Brussels offered some help with this visit, this may explain why the Czech Embassy there has become involved). As we discussed, I asked for details of the party for which Hong Kong Government's help is required in arranging accommodation
(but not picking up the bill). The Czech Embassy has undertaken to provide a full list of names and numbers and to indicate areas of interest for the party of businessmen. I explained that this was needed urgently in view of Hong Kong public holidays.
2. I also passed on your message that it was not Hong Kong practice to arrange press conferences for foreign visitors. Mr Vymetal said that this was not the impression that he had gained from previous contacts with Hong Kong Department. He asked whether it would not be possible for some advice and assistance from the Hong Kong Government Information Office. I undertook to ask again about this.
Sorry!
Yours ever,
