MR GOODLAD'S VISIT TO HONG KONG: 11 12 OCTOBER 1993

BRIEF NO 5

MEETING WITH SECRETARY FOR EDUCATION AND MANPOWER

Points to make with the Press

Impressed by the highly developed educational system in Hong Kong.

We support the Government of Hong Kong's aim to develop and improve the quality of education in schools.

Understand that the Hong Kong Government spends 21 billion Hong Kong dollars a year on education which accounts for 17.2 per cent of its total budget.

Particularly pleased about the Government's strategy to expand opportunities in tertiary education.

Am proud that Hong Kong has chosen to model its Open Learning Institute on the British Open University.
