In

Women concern groups have been pressing for the

elimination of

discrimination against woman in Hong Kong. December 1992, the Legislative Council passed a motion calling for the extension of CEDAW to Hong

Kong. A Green Paper was published in August to solicit the views of the public on measures to promote equal

opportunities for men and

vonen.

The Long Kong Government subscribes to the principle of equality between men and women. The Green Paper sets out positive measures to promote equal opportunities and to foster equality between the sexes. We are keen to bear public views of these The consultation period for the Green Paper will expire at the end of this year. Thereafter, we will revise a strategy to promote equal opportunities and a decision will then be taken on the extension

of CEDAW to Hong Kong.
