Introduction

West Kowloon Reclamation

Annex B

This is one of the 10 ACP projects. It provides land

for the expressway (West Kowloon Expessway) and the high speed

rail link to the new airport (Airport Railway) and the toll plaza

for the Western Harbour Crossing.

The main challenge to the project is the reprovisioning

of over 30 existing waterfront businesses and facilities, without

interruption to their functioning.

Size of the Reclamation

The total area of the reclamation is 334 hectares

extending from Yau Ma Tei northwards to Lai Chi Kok. The project

will add about 30% to the size of the Kowloon Peninsula with the

existing West Kowloon shoreline extended by an average of 1km.

The project will involve the shifting of 23 million

cubic metres of mud and 66 million cubic metres of marine fill.

More than 15km of seawall, breakwaters and culverts and

12km of local roads (in addition to the West Kowloon Expressway,

Airport Railway and Western Harbour Crossing) will be built.
