The senior Representative to the Joint Liaison Group
lives in a modern town house on the Peak. It is on the
small side but serves the purpose well enough at present.

The cost-free Private Treaty Grant of the Colvin House
site was completed in April 1993. Terry Farrell and
Company's Final Sketch Plans for the new building to house
the Consulate-General, British Council and 7 staff flats
after 1997 are now complete. The total estimated building
cost is in the order of £29 million (at current prices).
Treasury approval has not yet been sought, given that the
emerging conclusions from an MRS scrutiny have cast some
doubt on whether staffing levels for the Passport Section
take sufficient account of the cyclical nature of the future
passport demand in Hong Kong. The Steering Committee
(chaired by Mr Hum) will examine the problem on 21 May.
