Application of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR)

The Minister advised at his last meeting with Members that the matter had been put on the agenda of the Joint Liaison Group. They would like to know the latest position.

Nationality of wives and widows of Former Servicemen

British Nationality for Non-Chinese Ethnic Minorities

Members have noted a reply from the Home Secretary on 14 September 1993 stating HMG'S position on these two issues. Members maintain their

two previous view that these

specific groups merit sympathetic consideration by HMG.

addition to the above, Members would like to discuss with the Minister the "Common Visa" requirement by the Schengen Convention Countries. Members wish to ask KMG to lobby all the Schengen Convention Countries to lift visa requirements for Hong Kong passport holders.

I should be grateful if you would convey the topics to the Minister.

There may be additional topics that Members may wish to raise with the Minister.

I shall endeavour to inform the Minister through you as soon as advice is received from Members.

The Honourable Mrs Elsie
