Given the education theme for this visit it would be useful to have a few short paragraphs on this subject as preparation for Mr Goodlad. (You will note that we have also requested briefing for Mr Goodlad's meeting with the Secretary for Education and Manpower). Could you also please advise on any subjects not covered in our list of briefs on which Mr Goodlad should be briefed for the various individual meetings?

For BTC: Your telno 241 will be helpful in preparing briefing on British business prospects. Grateful for an update to cover any further developments. Our fax also commissions material for the British Chamber of Commerce slot. On this you will wish to know that Brigadier Hammerbeck recently wrote to Mr Goodlad asking if it would be possible for him to call on the Minister during the week of 21 September. Unfortunately the Minister will be travelling overseas at this time but he has said that he hopes to meet Brigadier Hammerbeck during his visit to Hong Kong in October. On the British Council we should be grateful if you could liaise with them and let us have some background for their reception (and their operation in Hong Kong).
