The Prime Minister asked whether Ronnie Grierson thought that Miss Kamsky would be willing to meet and talk to you in the first instance. Ronnie Grierson said that she would and that he would be happy to go back to New York next week and to invite both you and her to lunch. The one proviso in all this was that Miss Kamsky had to go into hospital for a minor operation on Monday and he was not sure when she would be out. If she accepted Mr Clinton's invitation to join the Administration then of course she would have much less freedom of action.
It seems to the Prime Minister that Miss Kamsky is somebody we would benefit from knowing and he likes the idea of you meeting her (or perhaps of my meeting her if I were able to get to the United States next week). Perhaps we could have a talk on the telephone when you have had a chance to think about the matter.
I am copying this letter to Stephen Smith (Foreign and Commonwealth Office).
