TOKYO SUMMIT: PRIME MINISTER'S BILATERAL WITH MR MIYAZAWA

The Prime Minister will have a bilateral in the margins of

the Tokyo Summit with Japanese Prime Minister Miyazawa. The Japanese have suggested the following subjects for

discussion.

Japanese Internal Political

The Prime Minister may first welcome an update on the

Japanese domestic political situation. The Japanese

Government lost a vote of no-confidence on 18 June,

following their decision to drop attempts to pass

legislation on political reform in the current session of the Diet. The opposition parties were joined in the vote by

39 LDP rebels. The rebels have now left the LDP and formed

two new political parties.
