Secretary of State's Visit to Singapore, 5-6 July

(64)

I

Thank you for your submission of 11 June. The Secretary of State agrees with the objectives set out for the visit and the elements in the programme proposed. should be grateful if you would now put this into a programme format so that we can look at the visit from a timetabling point of view. There should be an opportunity to meet a selection of non-governmental Singaporeans and for the Secretary of State to see something of interest in Singapore, as well as meeting politicians, businessmen and journalists.

The Secretary of State is content to give a speech at Tommy Koh's Institute of Policy Studies. He has asked that the speech should bang the drum a bit for Britain:

emerging from recent success of privatisation; role of English language;

Britain's role in peacekeeping;

our share of world trade, etc.

Please would you submit an outline on 21 June with a view to submitting the full speech for the weekend box on 25 June.
