he noteworthy achievements of China on the diplomatic front is a victory of China's peaceful diplomacy featured in its self-reliant independent and peaceful diplomatic policies. China has successfully withstood the stern tests from the drastic changes in the world and the world-wide economic recession and also various pressures imposed upon China, stood up on its own feet firmly and continued to advance along the socialist road with Chinese characteristics. Now China's reforms, opening to the outside world and modernization drive have stepped into a new phase. China is devoting its main efforts to keeping good neighbourship and friendship with its neighbours in order to achieve peace and tranquility along its borders. The friendly and cooperative relationship between China and all other nations has become more and more firm with each passing day and the assoications related to economy, trade, science, technology, culture are also expanding and going deeper and deeper. We feel more confident of a brighter future. Being an important force in maintaining world peace and promoting world economic development, its influences are increasing among all countries by and by.

We have to grasp at the good chance and to make the country stronger. But meantime, we also have to realize that hegemonism and power politics are still there. Not all people are glad to find that China has achieved a great success in its persistence in reform and open policy and making progress while following the socialist road. A number of people may work out wrong anticipation about the future of development in China and they would interfere with China's internal affairs and create trouble under various excuses. In short, facing the complicated and changeable world situation, we have to continue to observe things with our sober heads deal with such problems after considerable thought, explore opportunities actively and create new things through great efforts in order to achieve greater successes in diplomay, serve better reforms, opening to the outside world and economic ocnstruction and make greater contribution to world peace and development.
