I am forwarding a copy of a letter sent to us by the wife of a Hong Kong resident who is currently detained in China. As you can see she is asking for our help in first, finding her husband and secondly, getting him brought to trial.

It is not clear to us what nationality this man holds. The wife writes that he has a Hong Kong identity card but we note that he has been in Hong Kong since 1981. It is possible that he never applied for a British passport.

I should be grateful for any information you can send us in order to enable us to reply to Lau Ah Lan's letter. I note that she has already written to the Governor so the case should be known to you.
