We realise that such a proposal may not be easily acceptable to the government of your territory as it goes against the principle that DT governments should pay for their Governors and could be perceived as an attempt by the FCO to exercise further control over OAGS. We would therefore welcome your views on how we should approach your Government and whether we should consider some alternative to
repayment. For instance, might it be possible to pay your local salary and allowances into a special local government account, to be used on approved projects in the territory, or to meet additional expenses in your office?
4. Please do not at this stage consult your Government on this question. Before doing so, we need to establish
whether or not our proposal has a reasonable chance of
success.
