TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR THE EXPERTS ON SHIPS' ROUTEING, NAVIGATIONAL AIDS AND VTS

To consider and recommend, as appropriate, on all matters related to preventing or combating acts of piracy and armed robbery against ships by the use of ships' routeing, aids to navigation and vessel traffic services (VTS), including but not limited to:

Examining the adequacy of aids to navigation in the Strait of Malacca and recommending any additional facilities to ensure safe navigation in the area having regard to the volume of traffic and navigational hazards

Examining the advantage of establishing vessel traffic services or ship reporting systems in the Malacca Strait and the form of reporting that will assist ships in the area to avoid attacks by pirates, i.e. contents and frequency of reports

Considering the development of a format for a standard reporting system(s), which can be applied to any area of the world, where piracy or armed robbery is known to be a problem.
