Localisation of Lavs -

Consultation Paper on Merchant Shipping (Liner Conferences) (Hong Kong Order 1985)

We have prepared a paper for consulting the Chinese side on the localisation of UK enactments on the above captioned subject. Copy by fax to Bunten, HKD.

The paper covera the localisation of certain provisions of

United Kingdom Merchant Shipping (Liner Conferences) Act 1982, which was extended to Hong Kong by the 1985 Order (Hong Kong). These provisions concern the Convention of a Code of Conduct for Liner Conferences.

This paper on localisation will, in effect, reproduce existing laws and retain present arrangements pertaining to the abovementioned "Convention of a Code of Conduct", to which the Chinese side became a party to on 23 September 1980.

We wish to send this paper to the Chinese for consultation on 19th August 1993. We would appreciate if we could receive your comments by 16th August 1993, in accordance with the 14-day rule agreed between Mr Michael Sze, CAB and Mr Peter Ricketts, HKD, FCO on 1 December 1992.
