their HKCIS or HKDIS, if they cannot obtain national

passports or travel documents of any other state or region,

they will need a HKSAR travel document similar to the HKCI,

the HKSAR CI.

As from 1 July 1997, most former HKDI holders who have completed the 7-year residence requirement will have right of abode in the HKSAR. Among these persons, those

who are not eligible for the HKSAR passport and cannot

obtain national passports or travel documents of any other

state or region, should be eligible for the HKSAR CI.

All other stateless persons who have right of abode in the HKSAR and cannot obtain national passports or travel documents of any other state or region should also

be eligible for the HKSAR CI.

HKSAR DI: Currently persons lawfully residing in Hong Kong without right of abode, either on unconditional

stay or on limitation of stay, and who cannot obtain

national passports or travel documents of other countries

or territories travel on HKDIS. As from 1 July 1997, those

former HKDI holders who have completed the 7-year residence requirement and have acquired right of abode in the HKSAR,

will be eligible for either the HKSAR passport or HKSAR CI. However, there will still be other persons lawfully residing in the HKSAR without right of abode, either on

unconditional stay or on limitation of stay, and who cannot

obtain national passports or travel documents of any other state or region. These persons will need a HKSAR travel

HKDI, the HKSAR DI. The British
