Again, the Chinese side had not SO reacted to our proposal and it was thought unlikely that they would approve this before the end of this year. Nevertheless, we could still negotiate and initial an agreement with the UK. LO (IL) and Patrick Hamlin (Deputy Crown Solicitor) would constitute our team. Two days were thought to be sufficient.

Other possible topics for negotiation with the UK and others included the Enforcement of Maintenance Orders, Probate, Adoption and Double Taxation.

But it was considered that all these were somewhat unlikely candidates and should certainly be ruled out for discussion with the UK for the time being.
