The Minister summoned the Chinese charge d'affaires this morning to raise the above subject. The Minister read out a speaking note on (text in MIFT) and handed over a copy.
2. Minister Zheng undertook to report to Peking. He said that China adopted a positive and co-operative attitude towards efforts to stop the influx of Vietnamese Boat People into Hong Kong, and was committed to thoroughly resolve the problem of VBPs Lingering there. The Chinese authorities had taken and would continue to take strong measures: they hoped that the British Hong Kong authorities would also take effective measures.
