Dear John

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION FROM CHINA

1. We have been contacted by Immigration and Nationality Division of the Home Office about concerns shown by other EC members of Illegal Immigrants from China. I enclose for your own information a report of a recent EC meeting where the subject was raised. As you can see there is some suggestion that they might be travelling via Hong Kong. IND have previously been in contact with the Immigration Department who have passed over some information. IND belive that the question will be reverted to at the next meeting of CERIFE (a joint centre for exchanging information on asylum seekers). The IND will take the line at that meeting that we are consulting Hong Kong about the matter.

2.

If there is any information on Chinese Illegal Immigrants into Europe that could be prepared in time for that meeting it would be appreciated but more realistically we would be grateful for any considered response you can get Immigration Department to put together.
