Zhang Yafei

Zhang, a former student at Beifang Communications University, also helped produce the unofficial magazine Iron Currents. He was arrested in September 1990, charged with counterrevolutionary propaganda and incitement, and in March 1991 was sentenced to 11 years in prison and two years' subsequent deprivation of political rights.

Cheng Cun

Cheng, a reporter for the Yueyang bureau of News Pictorial Magazine, was sentenced by the Yueyang City Intermediate Court in early 1990 to five years in prison on charges of "counterrevolutionary propaganda and incitement." He is being held in Hengyang Provincial Prison No. 2 in Hunan Province.

Mei Shi

Mei, editor-in-chief of Yueyang Evening News in Hunan Province, received a four-year sentence in April 1990 on charges of "counterrevolutionary propaganda and incitement." He had published articles exposing corruption in the Communist Party, and after martial law was declared in Beijing in 1989, he continued to praise the protesters. He is being held in Hengyang Provincial Prison No. 2.

Chen Ziming

Chen, publisher of Economics Weekly, was sentenced to 13 years in prison on February 12, 1991. He and editor Wang Juntao were labeled the "black hands" behind the 1989 Tiananmen Square demonstrations, and they were convicted of counterrevolutionary activities. In August 1991, Chen went on a hunger strike to protest his solitary confinement and was eventually transferred to a shared cell. He is currently being held in Beijing No. 2 Prison.

Wang Juntao

Wang, editor of Economics Weekly, was found guilty of "conspiring to subvert the government" and "carrying out counterrevolutionary propaganda." He was sentenced to 13 years in prison on February 12, 1991. Wang has chronic hepatitis B and suffers from symptoms that indicate heart disease. His wife, Hou Xiaotian, reports that he may also have diabetes, and she has appealed for his release on medical parole. Wang is currently being held in Yanqing Prison, north of Beijing. He plans to begin a hunger strike June 3 if his health conditions are ignored.

Fan Jianping

Fan, an editor at Beijing Daily, was arrested sometime after June 4, 1989.
