Mr. Han Dongfang

I have written on behalf of the General Council to Premier Li of the People's Republic of China to appeal for Mr. Han Dongfang to be enabled to return to China and resume his work at the Beijing Railroad Bureau. He was expelled from China shortly after his return from the United States where he had medical treatment.

Mr. Han was a leader of an independent trade union organisation who was arrested and imprisoned for his part in the Tiananmen Square events in 1989. I hope that the Government will look for an opportunity to raise the issue with the Chinese authorities.

Yours sincerely,
