The preferred approach

The

preferred way forward, which would incorporate

the changes made necessary by the change of sovereignty but would keep the total number of general holidays unchanged, to exchange the birthday of Her Majesty The Queen

and the Monday following the birthday of Her Majesty The Queen for the National Day Holidays on 1 and 2 October.

we

recommend the following line -

(a) to note the existing holidays

and

the need

change the Queen's Birthday holidays;

(5) to note that Annex III to the Basic Law states

that the Resolution on the National Day of PRC

shall be applied in the HKSAR with effect from 1

July 1997; and

(c)

put forward Our proposals that from 1997, 1 and

2 October should be designated as public holidays

to celebrate the National Day of the PRC and that

these two days should be replace the existing

Queen's Birthday holidays.
