KAL-007: POSSIBLE RENEWAL OF COMPENSATION CLAIM

We will shortly be having a meeting to discuss the way forward on KAL-007. It would be useful to know whether you have received any feedback recently from the next-of-kin in Hong Kong, or any indications of their attitudes towards compensation claims following the publication of the ICAO report. (Given that the report did not provide evidence to pin the sole blame on any one party, I feel that Ministers will be reluctant to initiate any revival of the compensation claim but that is only guesswork at the moment.)

2. I remember you saying that the next-of-kin had all received a payment from KAL some time after the disaster. Could you remind me how much that was?
