CURRENT AND FUTURE WORK

5.1

The new information gathered during the visits to the States, as well as the data obtained from the reading out of the flight recorders, is currently being reviewed and analyzed. Some of the documentation obtained from the Russian Federation is under translation. Efforts are being made for the playback of the tapes from Japan and the Russian Federation with the assistance of Canada. Further analysis of some specific signals and sounds on the CVR tape is also being carried out in Canada.

5.2

The team is expected to be at the Boeing facilities in Seattle on 16 and 17 March 1993 (and 18 March 1993, if necessary) to carry out a computer simulation of the flight. The four Observer States have been invited and the opportunity will be taken to have further discussions with them. In addition, meetings have been planned with Boeing and the manufacturer of the INS (Litton), and information will be sought from them on a number of technical issues relating to the aircraft, the operation of the aircraft, and the equipment on the aircraft.

5.3

Upon its return to Montreal, the team will continue its review and analysis of the voluminous data obtained; a report will be presented to the Council, as soon as possible after this work is completed.
