Under Agenda Item 8, a review of Tables MET 1 and 3 should be undertaken, taking into consideration information on changes to the list of aerodromes and alternates provided by States and changes in the airspace organization and ATS route structure recommended by the ATS Committee. of Tables MET 1 and 3 will, therefore, be focused on the addition, deletion or modification of requirements currently stated in the Tables.

13.3

The review

The ASIA/PAC Aeronautical Fixed Services (AFS)/Aeronautical Mobile Services (AMS) and MID/ASIA/PAC COM/MET Regional Planning Groups undertook preliminary planning for the introduction of the World Area Forecast System (WAFS) in the regions under consideration. Subsequent informal WAFS meetings and consultations carried out during missions and by correspondence, provided material which has been used to update initial planning in this respect.

The meeting will be expected to review existing procedures in the ASIA and PAC Regions for the reception and onward transmission of aircraft observations and the list of ATS/MET reporting points published by the ICAO Regional Office. In particular, the meeting should take into account the requirement for air- reports at world and regional area forecast centres and recommend measures that should be adopted to ensure their availability at those centres.

13.5

The review of meteorological networks should focus on the availability of basic synoptic data from ASIA/PAC and adjacent regions at the three regional area forecast centres in the ASIA/PAC Region (Melbourne, New Delhi and Tokyo) and at the Washington world area forecast centre, and for the preparation of route forecasts not catered for by the WAFS.

The meeting will be expected to develop procedures concerning the provision of warnings to aircraft of volcanic eruption and volcanic ash cloud, including the designation of meteorological centres responsible for monitoring volcanic ash cloud by satellite and providing advisory information to support the issuance of the necessary SIGMET messages for volcanic ash by meteorological watch offices (MWOs).

13.7

The meeting will be expected to review the existing procedures for the issuance of SIGMET messages for tropical cyclones and to designate a meteorological centre, or centres, responsible for the provision of advisory information to support the issuance of SIGMET messages for tropical cyclones by

MWOS.
