1 Bonn have confirmed the position reported in FCO telno 360 with the Germans. They have not (not) contacted Kohl's party to suggest the subject be raised with the Chinese during the visit. They agree there might be some advantage if Peking were able to raise it with the German Embassy in time. However, they feel that given the technical nature of the subject, this may be better handled in follow-up contacts after the visit, or in the margins of the visit.

2. Grateful if Peking could contact the German Embassy to see if it would be possible for this to be raised in the margins of the visit.
